Wait just a minute...

Before you decide you're not happy with our president elect and you're moving to Canada, read this. (Fair warning: if you're like me you might wish you were listening to fingernails on a chalk board rather than reading it.) I know it's close to home and you won't have to learn another language, but you might not find what you're looking for. (That is if you're looking for someone more conservative than Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Reid.) Is there a place where capitalism is alive and well? A place where people don't hate the rich purely because they have more money than you have? A place where hard work is rewarded and we don't despise those who have achieved the American dream and tax them until they lose it?

Although Courtlin thinks I'm crazy far right, I want you to know:

I'm not joining any anti-Obama facebook groups. I think that's in poor taste, not to mention completely useless.

I'm still hopeful. The constitution is inspired by God. He said so. And in it are measures to make sure that the president you disagree with can't go too terribly far.

These election results have kicked me in the behind to get my food storage. I fully expect a massive decline in the GDP and a massive increase in inflation due to the bailout + the unwise Obama tax policy. Anything that inspires you to do good, right?

I also remain an optomist and feel that some good will come of this. I have a whole post planned about that, but I don't think I'll write it today.

And, I voted for 2 democrats. I'm not one of those silly people who think that a little 'R' (or a little 'D' for that matter) means someone must agree with me.

You are probably as far right as I am left. :) I will have you know I wasn't out in the streets yelling and screaming and crying like ALL of New York was last night and into this morning (and my morning I mean sun up and everything). I could hear the celebration in Harlem, and it was 3 blocks north and 6 blocks east.

I liked the post you linked us to. I don't know much about canadian politics, but I did find it funny that a few people posted a canadian and mexican flag with the question "where to move to?" It just made me feel like they really hadn't done any real research or tried to understand the issues and have an even narrower understanding of the governments of our neighbors. Because really what I do know about both of those governments is that those people who are upset that Obama won would hate it in either those places based on the governments and opinions of the citizens.

Another possibility for those that claim they're "moving to Canada" is simply that they're joking around and wishing that the political hub-bub would blow over already ;-)

Don't worry, I assume in the vast majority of cases it's a joke, but the joke worked quite well as an introduction to the article.

Hehe! I've actually taken a lot of enjoyment reading everyone's doomsday profile status's and opinions. If one reads past history... we've had a lot of crappy presidents with bad policies... and yet we always bounce back. Why? Exactly what you said. The constitution is what protects this nation from going too extreme one way or the other. Even all the democrats sitting in the Legislature will know that going too far and too extreme in their choices will push the nation to become anti-democratic.

Xan and I are actually benefitting from the financial crisis... sad to say, I know. The Icelandic economy is based on banks and their money value to the US has dropped almost 45%. Which means, our rent was going to be about $1,000. Now, it is $580 or so. We're hoping we get lucky and by the time we get back to the states, everything has magically fixed itself... :)
