Unexpected Developments

Here is a short list of the things in my life that have surprised me as of late.

1. Now that I use cloth diapers, I dislike doing the laundry less than before. I think this is due
to the increased regularity of the task that means there are always clean clothes somewhere. It's never a laundry emergency anymore, and I never have to spend a whole day catching up.

2. Along the same lines, I found when changing a friend's baby that the idea of saving poop in my garbage can until the truck comes is disgusting to me. All these years thinking that cloth diapers are yuckier, only to find out that I now think the opposite.

3. I cut both of my kid's hair today, Reasor's for the first time. Reasor, who tries to escape no less than 4 times per diaper change and rarely sits still was fine. It was Alena, the one with the long attention span who is often content to sit who wouldn't keep her head still for more than 15 seconds.

4. Reasor's new haircut makes him look younger rather than older.

5. I ran with shoes today in preparation for running my outdoor 10k on Saturday. I found that it was harder on my joints and the bottoms of my feet than going barefoot. In fact, 20 minutes in I had to take off the shoes because the muscles on the tops of my feet hurt so badly. I expected my feet to be heavier with shoes, but I didn't expect all that other stuff.

Am I the only one who walks around surprised all the time?

P.S. I know, I know, a picture of baby's first hair cut. I'll get to it eventually. Or Kevin will. Probably Kevin.

I wish I could run barefoot all of the time, but I pronate so badly that I can't run long without some support. If you don't pronate or supinate, then you could probably run the whole 10k in something less bulky than an all-out running shoe (although you'd probably want to get them soon so there's no unexpected surprises during the race).

Todd owns a pair of these and raves about them: http://www.merrell.com/US/en/Barefoot?002=2425238&004=1917908765&005=22430633885&006=6598171565&007=Search&008=&s_kwcid=TC|6977|merrell%20barefoot%20shoes||S|e|6598171565

I own a pair of these and, while I do like them, I probably couldn't wear them for anything longer than a 5k: http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/index.htm.

Good luck in your race - woot, woot!

If the top of your feet are hurting maybe you should retie your shoes, they are probably too tight. I can't run with any shoes except my Saucony's, I don't know how you run barefoot, especially on a treadmill.
